dc.description.abstract Portuguese Goa was known for its brisk trade and commerce until the late seventeenth century. During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries trading and commercial activities in Goa declined and this situation continued until 1961. The declined trade suffered further under the provisions of the Anglo-Portuguese Treaty of 1878. The present paper examines the different aspects of trade in Goa in the nineteenth century.
