dc.description.abstract This paper presents the results of Gigabit Ethernet standard implementation in the FPGA device. The design uses Altera's Stratix-II GX device and supports data transfer rates of 10Mbps, 100Mpbs as well as 1Gbps. FPGA implementations have the advantage of altering the functionality of the platform to perform several tasks. The performance of this design is assessed for Gigabit Ethernet using optical fibre as well as Copper media.
