dc.description.abstract The experimental data of the EXAFS associated with the K absorption discontinuity of manganese are analysed in four manganese oxides, viz. MnO, Mn3O4, Mn2O3 and MnO2 using the graphical method originally proposed by Lytle, Sayers and Stern and recently modified by Deshpande, Sapre and Mande. It is observed that the backscattering parameter fil decreases nonlinearly with the increase in the O: Mn ratio. A relationship of this kind can be useful in obtaining information about the content of the ligand atoms attached to the metal atom in compounds
