Synthesis of the title compound(1), a naturally occurring C-11 coumarin, isolated from Heritiera ornithocephala Kosterm has been achieved, A probable biogenesis of 1 involving the mode of elimination of four carbon atoms of the sesquiterpenoid precursor 2 has been suggested. Preparation of benzo-1-pyran-4-ones 7 and 8 has also been reported. |
