dc.description.abstract A novel bis(benzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)methane functionalized merocyanine chromophore (MC-BTH-2) was synthesized and characterized using modern spectroscopic techniques. Structure of MC-BTH-2 was established by means of single crystal-structure techniques. MC-BTH-2 showed turn-off fluorescence response towards picric acid (PA) (A11) among the examined nitroaromatics (NACs) i.e. picric acid with a limit of detection of about 7.287 x 10 sup(-8) M. Moreover, MC-BTH-2 exhibited colorimetric response from orange to red by naked-eye after interaction with picric acid. The complexation of MC-BTH-2 with picric acid was investigated by means of theoretical study. en_US
