dc.description.abstract The Gomantak Maratha Samaj is a community formed in early 20th-century colonial Goa, India. This paper examines the process of empowerment and identity construction within 14 GMS community. The paper is based on a comprehensive analysis of both historical and present materials, as well as writings sourced from the community. This study aims to present a well-rounded understanding of the process of shaping the community's identity and progress. The study examines assertions put forth by the community to initiate a reform of its collective identity. In the case of devadasi communities, education was seen as a pathway to social mobility and empowerment. Additionally, the paper discusses various instances that demonstrate that education remains a driving force behind the progress and success of individuals within this Goan community. en_US
