dc.description.abstract |
Based on the Census data, the paper analyses the trends in the workforce employed in the tertiary sector of Goa for the period 1961-91. It also looks into the inter-sectoral shifts in the workforce and its implications for the economic development of the state. It is found that the tertiary sector has been playing a vital role in employment generation in Goa, absorbing a large percentage of the workforce migrating from the primary sector. Within the tertiary sector the "other services" has been the largest employer followed by trade and commerce. Transport, storage and communications have been growing rather slowly in this respect. |
