dc.description.abstract |
The findings of this study emphatically establish that there are regional (taluka-wise) disparities in economic development of Goa, which reflect in a sharp rural-urban divide. It is the three coastal talukas of Bardez, Tiswadi and Salcete which are disproportionately highly developed, which also happen to be the most urban talukas. The major implication of this study is that there is a need for a deliberate policy action and initiative on part of the government targeting the rural areas. Any policy initiative by the Government should take into consideration the sectoral dynamics and the role that tourism plays as a major economic activity in Goa. |
