Abstract:
This is an attempt to dispassionately assess the
Portuguese impact on Goa in the twentieth century. The Portuguese influence on Goa varied very widely, ranging from massive to miniscule, according to three criteria: time, place and category. The categories were religious, social, cultural, economic, political and administrative. The Portuguese imperial career in India is known for its longevity. While the Old Conquests experienced colonialism for four and half centuries, the New Conquests had to bear its brunt for nearly two centuries.
