This is first book in any language in the world on the interstate river of western India , Mhadei/Mandovi by Prakash Parienkar, Konkani writer and teacher, detailing his mutlidimensional and multidisciplinary encounters with the river basin. Superbly illustrated with breathtaking pictures, the 412 pages Konkani book is an encyclopedic work throwing light on geography, history, geology, hydrology, hydrography, ecology, biodiversity, cultural, social, anthropological facets of the river basin in a lucid style which would take the reader on a guided tour of the ill explored region in western ghats of Goa. The preface by Dr. Nandkumar Kamat also signifies the importance of the book and stresses the need for further studies. The books was scheduled to be released by India's well known ecologist and biologist Prof. Madhav Gadgil on World Tourism day, 27 Sept. 2011. The book is published by directorate of art and culture, Government of Goa,as a part of golden jubilee anniversary of Goa's freedom from Portuguese colonial rule. although written in Konkani this book would appeal people, scholars and NGOs, the world over interested in conservation of pristine rivers.
