Abstract:
An expression for the magnetoresistivity of a crystal field split Kondo system is obtained. Numerical calculations are performed for the system Ce sub(0.76) La sub(0.14) Th sub(0.1) for which all the parameters are available from the experimental data. Results are presented on the partial occupation numbers of the Zeeman split CEF levels as well as on the magnetoresistivity both as functions of temperature and magnetic field. It is found that the Kondo state persists for a field as high as 15 T. The system shows negative magnetoresistance. The magnetoresistivity decreases with increasing magnetic field. The results are in agreement with the experimental data on cerium based Kondo systems.
