Data caching issues in client/ server database systems

Abstract

With Client/Server Systems becoming the defacto in many dispersed organizations, the current focus in research should also be on improving performance in such systems. The key to performance and scalability of Client/Server Systems is the exploitation of relatively inexpensive client resources. One such performance improvement could be the use of client disks to store the query results previously obtained from servers foe the future use of these clients. This kind of dynamic caching can decrease network traffic and query response time, thus improving throughput. This paper looks at the various issues involved in handling such dynamic caching of query results.
