Abstract:
The paper deals with the study of physico-chemical parameters of six sacred temple tanks situated in Ponda taluka of Goa over period of six months, i.e., during Nov 2009 to May 2010. The various parameters studied include pH, TDS, Conductivity, alkalinity, chlorides, sulphates, phosphates, nitrates, total hardness, dissolved oxygen. The results are analyzed comparatively and conclusions regarding suitability of use of such waters are made. The results revealed that there was seasonal variation in some physico-chemical parameters and most of the parameters were in the normal range as prescribed by IS and ICMR and indicate better quality of sacred tank water.
