Abstract:
The bacterial strain S (ATCC 43388) assimilating alpha-santonin, a sesquiterpene, as the sole source of carbon and energy is a gram negative rod, motile with single polar flagellum, oxidase positive, grows on the several sugars without the formation of acid. The G + E content of 63.7 percent, whole cell protein, and fatty acid profile, and the presence of "Nostoxanthin" pigment, indicate it to be Sphingomonas paucimobilis.
