Abstract:
Using the analytical solution derived by Muskat and Kuiper for unsteady flow to a well with negligible storage in a finite confined aquifer, an analytical solution for unsteady flow to a large-diameter well in a finite confined aquifer during pumping and recovery is obtained. Existence of a barrier boundary at a finite distance from the well has little influence on contribution of the well storage to pumping. The barrier boundary affects drawdown significantly. Well storage is not completely recovered in finite aquifer and there is a permanent drawdown in the initial piezometric surface consequent to an event of pumping.
