Abstract:
In vitro culture systems offer versatility and potential application in many fields of AM research. The availability of abundant root free fungal mycelium and spores has proven to be useful in morphological, biochemical, physiological and molecular studies. Increased knowledge on mycorrhizal symbiosis has been obtained during recent years with the use of monoxenic cultures. In vitro grown AM fungi constitute a reliable material for species characterization and description and for evolutionary and interspecific studies.
