Abstract:
This paper draws on existing literature to demonstrate that a well-functioning Common Property Resource (CPR) would as efficient as a privately owned resource. In order to do so however there is need for collective action. The factors that are considered crucial in enabling and sustaining collective action are discussed. The discussion of CPRs assumes great importance as we struggle to respond to challenges posed by climate change and deepening resource extraction.
