Abstract:
This paper proposes to comment on the discourse emerging from the contribution of Women poets during the early phase of Konkani poetry. While the critics have studied the Konkani poetry of this period, independent study of Vijayabai Sarmalkar and other women poets has not been undertaken as was done in the case of the male poets. In Konkani Kavyachi Prushtthabhumi (1994), much discussion is available on male poets but no mention of Vijayabai. Women poets do not seen to have been taken seriously from the perspective of women's discourse. This discussion provides an analysis of how the women poets, as women of the said era, thought of themselves, of the various happenings in society and of women centric issue.
