Abstract:
The Indian link to sustainable agricultural practices is well documented in numerous ancient Indian texts and scriptures (Singh et al., 2023). The Sanskrit verse mentioned above translates to ‘the Earth is my mother, and I am her son’. It emphasises the sacred relationship shared between the inhabitants of the planet and nature. Therefore, it is the implied duty of every human being to nurture nature and preserve it. Organic farming is practised in the same spirit. As a sustainable farming method, it enables the achievement of dual objectives of ensuring a nutrient-rich yield and food security for the masses (Arora & Aggarwal, 2024). Agriculture, the backbone and a vital source of food security for the Indian economy, holds promise to incorporate sustainable practices (Sahoo et al., 2025). In light of the impending ecological crisis, organic production and consumption can help in the maintenance, if not mitigation and reversal, of the environmental harm caused by insatiable human wants (Gugalia, 2021). Organic production and consumption can help achieve all Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to varying degrees, while functioning within environmental constraints (Gamage et al., 2023; Lu & Wu, 2022)
