Abstract:
The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the traditional mode of classes for those studying French as a foreign language as lockdowns were imposed in various countries. Courses that were previously in the conventional face-to-face mode changed into online mode. At the same time, several reports have indicated a surge in interest in language learning. This study inquires into the perceived changes in motivation and interest to study French as a foreign language prior to and during the pandemic of 2020-2021. It highlights learners' perceptions of the online mode of learning. The data was collected through a survey having closed and open-ended questions. The findings of this study could be helpful to teachers and institutions when preparing the delivery of course content and choosing a mode of instruction.
